My studio pinboard with the original paintings in natural dyes and the resulting felt landscape
"The Sentinels" Now sold. To the left is a painting also in natural dyes also now sold
North Wales is such a beautiful area that I spend a lot of time just looking, sometimes I work out how I would get the colours I see around me in the natural dyes I use. I dye all the fibres and fabrics I use in my felts and many of the colours I produce are my own recipes. I work from my own photos or others and then I often paint pictures with natural dyes on watercolour paper. I make many pieces of fine felt with layers of colour with a surface texture from lots of different types of silk fibres and silk fabrics such as silk chiffon, organza’s and others all of which I have dyed myself. Finally most of them I stitch
using my sewing machine zooming up and down my felt as fast as I can go with my poor sewing machine vibrating with the speed. I often pin the end result to my board for days if not weeks, adding a bit here and there before deciding that it is finished and ready for framing. |
